Part 1: Why choose a crewed charter yacht ?
First, because you are on vacation. You should not have to worry about provisioning cooking and cleaning or the safety of the boat and the anchorage. Sure you could rent a bareboat but unless you are ready to pay more for a lot less, or share the cost with 6 to 7 others, you would be well advised to get a crewed yacht instead.
You will still have a good time on a bareboat, if you know the area and your way around sailboats but with time spent being briefed, provisioning cooking and cleaning that good time may be somewhat a little shorter.
Second, the good thing about a Crewed Charter Yacht is that you can plan spending your vacation week doing only the things you like: taking an active part in sailing, (or not), kayaking, swimming, snorkeling or diving, basking in the sun, enjoying a good book with a refreshing cocktail, depending on the boat, all that is available and much more like fishing, sailboarding etc.
Third, the captain on board knows not only the area, but the boat as well. He is the one that will get up at night if it gets windy to make sure everything is fine. He will have spare parts should anything needs repair and can generally fix it himself; you probably wont even know about it. Because of his local knowledge, he knows where the best anchorages, snorkeling area or dive sites are not to mention the fun beach bar, the trails and, of course, how to fix a good cocktail. He is also the one filling out the long customs forms and clearing you in.
Fourth, the Chef , aside from preparing the boat and provisioning, cooking gourmet meals especially designed for your party, doing the dishes and keeping the boat in general clean and orderly , will, together with the Captain keep things running well and smooth during your entire stay.
Fifth, the crew is there at no extra cost really when you compare with a bareboat and their purpose is to make your vacation memorable , really the best ever. They have the means and the will to do it .. Actually, if you add to the cost of a bareboat what ever is needed to make it comparable in terms of food, services, comfort, toys and amenuities you will almost double the cost of a Crewed Charter Yacht which are normally all inclusive.
